Resource-saving and environmentally friendly technology of multi-stage gasification of wood waste

The key idea of the project is the separation of gasification stages, which allows burning resinous products, stabilizing the composition of generator gas, and obtaining virtually tar-free gas, thereby increasing the overall efficiency of the installation.
Based on mathematical modeling and experimental research, a prototype of a 30 kW multi-stage gas generator and a hybrid energy unit were created, combining a biomass-based gas generator power plant, solar panels, an energy storage system, and a backup generator. This scheme makes the installation flexible, reliable, and adaptable to the conditions of forest and northern regions, where wood waste is an available and inexpensive resource.
The technology allows:
- Processing waste from the timber industry;
- Reducing environmental impact;
- Obtaining electrical and thermal energy cheaper than diesel generation;
- Increasing energy independence of autonomous consumers.
The development has already received international recognition: the project was awarded the Outstanding Project Award at the BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest in the Green Industry category. In 2025, it became the winner of the XI International Prize "Small Energy – Big Achievements" in the nomination "Research and Development in Small-Scale Distributed Energy."
The ISEM SB RAS project is an example of how fundamental science transforms into applied solutions for "green" energy, sustainable development, and small-scale distributed generation.
