Leading UAE scientist Mr. Samuel Mao joins the 2024 Prize Expert Council

The Expert Council of the X-th International Award «DISTRIBUTED POWER GENERATION – GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS» included the Director of the ASPIRE Sustainable Energy Research Institute, Co-Chairman of the UAE Universities Climate Network, Professor of Khalifa University Samuel Mao. The author of ten national patents for inventions, the winner of the prestigious technology award «R&D 100», Dr. Samuel Mao expressed hope that the Russian contest will bring to light the advanced projects and it will serve a cause for developing renewable energy in the world.

Professor Samuel Mao is one of Abu Dhabi's most prominent scientists. His research interests include renewable energy evolution, which is currently a priority in the United Arab Emirates.

Professor Samuel Mao was the founder of the Institute for New Energy, a non-profit platform dedicated to international collaboration in the development and commercialization of sustainable technologies. Nowadays he is he Director of the ASPIRE Sustainable Energy Research Institute, Co-Chairman of the UAE Universities Climate Network, and Professor of Practice at Khalifa University, a public university specializing in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

As the author of more than 200 scientific papers, Professor Samuel Mao has also authored more than 50 national invention patents. He co-chaired the International Clean Energy Conference in 2012 and 2017. Mr. Samuel Mao has co-founded several high-tech companies and has been awarded the prestigious R&D 100 Award, which is given annually for the best developments and research in the world.

«Today, the United Arab Emirates is a country that actively invests in the climate agenda and the renewable energy development. In December 2023, it was exactly the UAE who hosted the COP-28 Climate Change Conference, where the Emirates one more time announced their ambitious plans to carbon neutrality transition by 2045. With great interest the entire world is following the implementation of advanced energy projects in the UAE, including the ones related to the field of hydrogen energy. And in this sense, we are very pleased that such a famous scientist from the UAE as Samuel Mao has joined the Expert Council of the «DISTRIBUTED POWER GENERATION – GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS» Award. I am positive that his participation will raise both the level of project evaluation and the international status of the contest itself,» said Mr. Maxim Zagornov, President of the Distributed Power Generation Association.

As a refresher, the International Award «DISTRIBUTED POWER GENERATION – GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS» has been awarded since 2013 and it is an effective platform for presenting the most advanced projects in the distributed and renewable energy. 60 Projects from Russia and the UAE Make the 2024 Shortlist

The shortlist for the X International Award «DISTRIBUTED POWER GENERATION – GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS» has been announced, featuring 60 projects from two countries. Among the nominees are companies and organizations from Russia and the United Arab Emirates. A total of 72 competitors vied for the main prize of the competition—the «Golden Lightning» statuette. Following preliminary selection results, the organizing committee has compiled the shortlist for the 2024 Award. This week, members of the International Expert Council will begin reviewing the projects. The names of the winners will be announced on December 13 in Moscow.

"Small energy industry strives for great achievements": an interview with Maxim Zagornov

The International Award "Small Energy - Great Achievements" is held for the tenth time this year. Today it is the main industry award for the best implemented projects in the field of distributed and renewable energy. In a letter to the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Association of Small-Scale Power Industry made proposals for the development of energy capacities in the Far East

Following the Ninth Eastern Economic Forum, the President of Russia instructed the Government, together with the business community, to prepare a long-term program for the development of energy capacities in the Far East and to provide for project financing mechanisms. The Small Energy Association made its proposals, which were reflected in a letter to Mikhail Mishustin, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.
