The RENWEX 2026 International Exhibition and Forum, dedicated to current challenges in the renewable energy sector, is taking place these days in Moscow. Strengthening international cooperation in the field of renewable energy is one of the key objectives of the event, and a significant part of the business program is devoted to this.
Against the backdrop of the global energy transition and the focus on economic decarbonisation, the development of renewable energy and international cooperation are becoming key priorities for most countries striving to ensure sustainable growth and energy security.
On April 7, the first day of the Forum, a session titled "International Cooperation in Low Carbon Energy: Accumulated Experience, New Approaches, and Growth Points" took place.
At the invitation of the Distrubuted Power Generation Association, the session was attended by Samuel Mao – Director of the ASPIRE Research Institute for Sustainable Energy, Co Chair of the UAE Universities Climate Network, Professor of Practice at Khalifa University, and a member of the Expert Council of the "Distributed power generation – great achievements" Award.
During his presentation, Professor Mao shared the UAE’s experience in implementing renewable energy projects and presented the "Roadmap" for energy efficiency until 2050, recently approved in the UAE.
"This plan is aimed at optimising energy use, supporting sustainable economic growth, and reducing the burden on the energy system amid rising economic and demographic pressures. The strategy is part of the UAE’s broader agenda to modernise infrastructure and reduce environmental impact. It reflects the country’s ambition to strengthen its position as a regional leader in sustainable development. At the same time, despite ambitious plans, the pace of renewable energy development in the region is not yet high enough. About 70% of energy demand is still met by hydrocarbons – and it is hydrocarbons that have underpinned our region’s success story. Nevertheless, this provides an opportunity to rethink energy system design by systematically combining hydrocarbons with clean energy and AI to optimise processes," the expert noted.
It is worth recalling that on April 9, during the third day of the RENWEX business programme, the Distrubuted Power Generation Association will also hold its own technology session: "Regional Experience and Best Practices: Energy Saving Cases in Green Energy."
The session will address current issues in the development of distributed generation in Russia by examining the most notable finalist projects of the Award, and will also highlight the features of this year’s competition.
