The final online meeting of the VIII Distributed Power Generation — Great Achievements International Award Expert Council took place on November, 23. The experts from Moscow, Novosibirsk, Simferopol, Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg, as well as from abroad: from France and Germany got in touch. Representatives of business community, science and leading industry organizations noted the high-level management of the Award this year, discussed contestant projects and finally defined with the winners.
Maksim Zagornov, president of the Distributed Power Generation Association, noted that «although the contest was held in complicated economic conditions, the Award hit a lot of new organizational and semantic peaks. The Expert Council has significantly strengthened; this year it includes Kristina Haverkamp, Managing Director at German Energy Agency (dena), and Andrey Pokhozhaev, Senior Managing director of RES Investment Division at RUSNANO MC LLC. For the first time in the history of the Award, an electronic system for collecting applications was introduced on the project website. But most importantly, a record number of applications has been submitted: total of 91 applications from Russia, Austria and Belarus».
As the members of the Expert Council unanimity noted, «it was challenging to choose the best project in each nomination this year; the level of the projects has been very high». In this regard, the experts gave several proposals. Due to the different financial capabilities of the competing companies (large corporations and small and medium-sized businesses), Sergei Semyonov, member of the expert council, Director of Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in Russia and CIS at Schneider Electric, proposed to introduce a ranking of nominations (for example, to add the «Best Microgeneration Project» nomination). Dominique Fache, member of the expert council, Board member of the SOPHIA ANTIPOLIS Technopark, proposed to introduce a special nomination for youth (students and schoolchildren). Also, Valentin Parmon, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, supported his French colleague in this. While Valery Stennikov, Director of the Melentiev Energy Systems Institute of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, proposed to introduce a nomination for the best scientific and methodological development.
The experts noted the importance of the Award for the industrial community, growing prestige of the competition as well as the ever-increasing social significance of this project. The contestant project provide specific solutions for the up to date challenges, in general, popularize the distributed power generation branch. Sergei Gandzha, Dean of the SUSU Power Engineering Faculty, Doctor of Technical Sciences, noted, that «the competition showed a noticeable increase in quality and level of competitive projects this year, as well as the organization of the entire nomination process! The contest is on top!»
During the discussion, members of the Expert Council finalized the list of the winners and awardees of VIII Distributed Power Generation — Great Achievements International Award. Their names will be announced on December, 11, during the Solemn Award Ceremony in Moscow. However, public online voting for the contestant projects is still ongoing. You can vote for the best projects of the year until December, 6, on the Award website.
