72 projects from three different countries were included into the short list of the Distributed Power Generation — Great Achievements International Award. Companies from Russia, Austria and Belarus have become the nominees. 91 contestants competed for the main prize of the contest, the Golden Lightning statuette. Based on the results of the preliminary selection, the Organizing Committee compiled the Award-2020 short list. This week the members of the International Expert Council are starting to review the projects. The names of the winners will be announced in Moscow on December, 11.
This year the Distributed Power Generation — Great Achievements Award will be given in 6 nominations: Best distributed power generation project — power capacity up to 5 MW, Best distributed power generation project — power capacity over 5 MW, Best alternative energy project, Advanced development in the energy sector, Investor of the year in the energy sector and For contribution into the energy sector development.
91 applications from Russia, Austria and Belarus were submitted to the Organizing Committee of the contest from June, 17, till October, 31. The Organizers note that it is the record number for the whole history of the Award. The geography of the submitted projects is impressive this year; distributed power generation projects implemented in Austrian Hallein, Belarus, the Crimea, and dozens of regions of Russia: Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan, Sochi, Anapa, Saratov, Tomsk, Togliatti, Magadan, Yakutsk, on the Sakhalin island, in Karachay-Cherkessia and Kabardino-Balkaria, in Vladikavkaz and Vladivostok, etc. have been announced for the contest.
«Every year the Distributed Power Generation — Great Achievements International Award raises the standards of both amount and quality of the submitted applications, — Maksim Zagornov, the organizer of the project, President of the Russian Distributed Power Generation Association, Chairman of Business Russia’s Subcommittee of small-scale power generation, said. — Despite the downturn, the record number of projects from Russia, Austria and Belarus have been submitted for the VIII nomination period this year. This once again proves that distributed power generation is a world trend; small-scale and alternative power generation facilities are being built in different countries and on different continents».
Based on the results of preliminary selection by the Organizing Committee, 72 projects were included into the Award short list. Power generation facilities constructed for various industries: agricultural, food, oil, housing and utilities branches are among the finalists.
Significant applications have been submitted for nominations 1 and 2. The Austrian company MWM Austria GmbH presented the project of 3,7 MW modular power station implemented in Hallein. The facility supplies electrical power and heat to AustroCel Hallein GmbH, a European leading cellulose producer. It became the first power station in Austria fueled with biogas. Valdex Energetica company from Odintsovo presented a 4 MW energy centre for Simvol glass and glassware producing plant located in Gus-Khrustalny. Grintech Energy company from Moscow submitted the project of 5 MW energy centre for Alexinsky quarry solid waste landfill to the jury’s approval; and Max Motors company from Sochi presented the project of 48,4 MW energy centre for The Abinsk Electric Steel Works. This project has become the largest generation facility announced for the Award. The management company IED-holding from Kazan presented the 20 MW energy centre in Yelabuga. Construction of the facility allowed driving heating tariffs for the final customer down and increasing power and heat supply systems reliability.
Traditionally, the hottest contest unfolded in nomination 3 devoted to the Best alternative energy project. The submitted projects are marked with technological novelty and bold engineering decisions. This way, KOVROVSKIE KOTLY Co. announced the project of the largest boiler house of 20 MW capacity fired with pellets in Russia. The facility is located in Lakhta-Katunino settlement, in wintertime daily consumption of wooden pellets amounts at 50 tons. NEOSUN Energy RUS company from Moscow presented the solar energy station constructed for the Fox Lounge country retreat located in the Moscow region. The solar energy station is equipped with highly efficient monocrystalline Neosun panels, the company’s self-engineered product. ENEKA company from Belarus announced two solar energy stations, Plamya located in the Vitebsk region and Kachanovichi situated in the Minsk region, supplying additional power to agricultural enterprises of the Republic.
The following projects are competing in nomination 3 as well: solar energy station for Manhattan residential complex located in Kazan (KrialEnegoStroi Plant), solar thermal unit for a kindergarten located in Sevastopol (Novy Polyus), wind power stations cluster in the seaport of the Sakhalin island (Alternativnaya Energetika Yuzhny Ural), the first in Russia rural general education school with geothermal heating located in the Tomsk region (Ecoklimat), equipping the tourist shelters of Taganay national park with solar panels (Taganay National Park) and many others.
RusHydro company has become a leader in terms of the number of applications submitted; the company announced a series of innovative power generation projects in various nominations including the project of construction of a solar power generation facility at Nizne-Bureiskaya hydro power station where the first in Russia floating 54 kW solar energy station was installed, as well as two small-scale hydro power station projects: 10 MW Verkhnebarkaya HPS in Kabardino-Balkaria and 5,6 MW Ust-Dzhegutinskaya HPS in Karachay-Cherkessia.
The largest number of applications has been submitted for nomination 4 devoted to Advanced developments in the energy sector. Both largest research centres, authoritative engineering companies and Russian high education establishments claim victory here. The project of 5 kW autonomous hydrogen power unit was presented by Sovtest ATE company from Kursk, Volts Battery from Saint Petersburg announced its innovative energy storage solution, International POL Testing Center located in Moscow demonstrated 2nnel laboratories automation software package, etc. A series of significant investigations has been performed by representatives of the Ural Federal University named after B. N. Yeltsin, South Urals State University, V. Larionov Institute of the Physical-Technical Problems of the North of the Siberian Branch of the RAS, Tuva Institute for Exploration of Natural Resources of the Siberian Branch of the RAS.
The projects of float wave electric power station by Applied Technologies Company, BioHouse by AltEnergia, HERMES including autonomous cellular base stations and emergency communication pickets which allowed to save more than 80 people in the Magadan region during two years by ARBUZ Research and Engineering Association should also be highlighted among the interesting developments represented in nomination 4.
Competitive battle will also unfold in nomination 5, Investor of the year in the energy sector. Schneider Electric, the management company IED-holding and Nezavisimiye Energosistemy company applied for the Award in this nomination.
This week the jury of the contest will start a detail review of the projects. The leading experts in small-scale distributed power generation, market leaders, representatives of authoritative industry structures of the Russian Federation, presidents of the largest industry related high education establishments have become its members. This year, Kristina Haverkamp, Managing Director at German Energy Agency (dena), has joined the Expert Council of the Award. For the first time, the contestant materials will be reviewed electronically on the website of the Award.
The winners in six nominations will receive honorary diplomas and unique statuettes made by Zlatoust craftsmen. The Award statuette will be made of bronze and covered with gold and silver. The Ural mined dolerite stone will be also used for their decoration. The solemn Award ceremony will be held in the congress-hall of Commerce and Industry Chamber of the Russian Federation in Moscow on December, 11.
