The Secretariat of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) has included a panel session "Development of distributed power generation in rural and remote areas of the Asia-Pacific Region: the role of the government and businesses" in the business program of the Asia-Pacific Energy Week. The corresponding initiative was proposed by Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, Distributed Power Generation Association and All-Russia Public Organization "Business Russia".
The Asia-Pacific Energy Week will be held from October 16 to 20 in Bangkok (Kingdom of Thailand), the key event will be the Asia-Pacific Energy Forum. It will bring together representatives of the global energy elite. The Russian delegation will be headed by Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Mochalnikov. The forum topic is "Building a secure, sustainable and interconnected energy future for the Asia-Pacific Region".
According to Maksim Gubanov, Head of Energy and Public Utilities Department, Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, the inclusion of a separate session on distributed generation in the APEF program will prove the significant contribution of this energy sub-sector to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 7 to ensure affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
"This direction has been in the focus of our activity since 2019. We research international experience and attract the attention of the world professional community to this area to expand cooperation, specifically in terms of exporting Russian technologies. We are confident that the Russian Federation may become a world leader in developing relevant energy technologies as well as a reliable partner for many countries of the Asia-Pacific Region to achieve sustainable development goals, by developing the investment potential of its local energy sector," Maksim Gubanov said.
Maksim Zagornov, President of Distributed Power Generation Association, member of the General Council, Chairman of Distributed Power Generation Subcommittee and Business Ambassador of Business Russia to the UAE, will be the moderator of the APEF session. The Association participates in the formation of the international distributed energy market, implements innovative energy projects in the Russian and foreign markets, carries out technology transfer combining the potential of innovative companies operating in the field of distributed power generation.
"The subject of the distributed generation development to ensure energy supply to consumers in rural and remote areas has a global scale and is relevant for many countries, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. This effective and rapid solution to overcome energy poverty can become the basis for achieving the sustainable development goals for the nations. We are interested in expanding the cooperation with ESCAP and looking forward to having fruitful discussions in the frames of APEF," Maksim Zagornov said.
The co-organizer of the panel session at the Asia-Pacific Energy Forum in Bangkok will be Business Russia, All-Russia public organization to represent the interests of private non-resource companies of the Russian Federation. Today, one of the strategic priorities of the business association is the development of international activities, primarily in the markets of friendly nations.
"I am sure that holding a panel session at APEF with the participation of Business Russia companies will facilitate the establishment of business contacts between Russian and foreign businesses, foster the implementation of investment and business projects, and contribute to improving the Russian businesses image abroad,” Nonna Kagramanyan, the Vice President, Head of the Executive Committee of Business Russia, mentioned.
