On April 9, as part of the business programme of the RENWEX 2026 International Exhibition and Forum, the Distrubuted Power Generation Association held a roundtable titled "Regional Experience and Best Practices: Energy Saving Cases in Green Energy". The session brought together the best projects and practices of recent years – including projects by finalists and winners of the International Award " Distributed power generation – great achievements ".
During the session, current trends in the development of distributed energy in Russia and the world were presented. As noted by the session moderator, Vice President of the Distrubuted Power Generation Association Valery Zhikharev, as of early 2026, the volume of distributed generation in Russia stands at 38–39 GW (14–19% of total installed capacity), with the share of renewables reaching 15%.
Special attention was paid to international experience: in China, the United States, and Germany, distributed generation accounts for a significant share of the energy mix, demonstrating high scalability potential and the integration of renewables and energy storage systems.
The expert highlighted mechanisms for unlocking the potential of distributed generation in Russia. In particular, discussions covered initiatives aimed at reducing the time and cost of grid connections; eliminating excessive requirements; improving the accessibility of energy infrastructure for businesses; and developing mechanisms for capacity redistribution and cost compensation for infrastructure creation.
It was noted that several proposals from the Distrubuted Power Generation Association have already been included in the Russian Government's action plan through 2030, and work on further regulatory improvements continues.
During the session, the following companies presented their projects:
- Alexander Shmygalev, General Director of "Litso Stolits";
- Alexander Goryansky, Deputy General Director for Innovative Projects, ENELT Group;
- Ivan Volkov, Sales Development Director, Unigreen Energy;
- Yuri Vlasov, General Director, Watts Battery;
- Andrey Poklonsky, Technical Director, INTECH;
- Pavel Sinitsyn, Commercial Director, GEOTERMO;
- Vladislav Sukhanov, Commercial Director, SolarTech;
- Dmitry Muravyov, Lead Engineer, Power Converter Laboratory;
- Alexander Sukhin, Technical Director, Russian Electrotechnical Society;
- Alexander Kozlov, Head of the Thermodynamics Laboratory, Melentiev Energy Systems Institute SB RAS.
The presented case studies demonstrated a high level of elaboration and applied significance for the regions (see speakers' presentations).
A separate segment of the session was dedicated to the XII International Award "Distributed power generation – great achievements", which since 2013 has remained a focal point for the industry community and recognises the best projects in the field of small-scale distributed and renewable energy.
As noted by the Executive Director of the Distrubuted Power Generation Association and Head of the Organising Committee of the "Distributed power generation – great achievements" Award Maria Nevolina, this year the call for applications will open in April, and the awards ceremony will traditionally take place in December in Moscow.
