On April 18, a member of the Expert Council of the Distributed Power Generation — Great Achievements International Award, Chairman of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, laureate of the State Award of Russia for Science and Technology, laureate of the Global Energy Award Valentin Parmon celebrated his birthday. Author and co-author of more than 580 scientific papers, Valentin Parmon is rightfully considered one of the most authoritative world experts in the field of catalysis and photocatalysis, chemical methods of energy conversion, unconventional and renewable energy sources.
It should be noted that Valentin Parmon received worldwide recognition for his scientific research in the field of radiation-thermal catalysis. Under his leadership, solar catalytic reactors were designed, in which the efficiency of converting solar energy into chemical fuel reaches 43% with a useful power of 2 kW — this figure has not yet been surpassed.
Under the leadership of Valentin Parmon, the first indigenous technology for processing associated petroleum gases into a mixture of liquid aromatic hydrocarbons was developed, which allows solving the problem of utilizing associated petroleum gases. Scientists are working on obtaining fuels from plant raw materials: microalgae, vegetable oils, wood, rice husks. The scientist believes that chemists must learn how to process such raw materials into useful substances, and in the future into fuel.
Valentin Parmon conducts a large scientific, organizational and social activity. He is the editor-in-chief of the Chemistry in Russia journal (Russian Chemical Society — RFC), the Russian regional editor of the international Reaction Kinetics and Catalysis Letters journal, a member of the editorial boards of the Russian Chemical Journal (RFC), Journal of Physical Chemistry (RAS), the Kinetics and Catalysis journal (RAS), as well as international Chemistry for Sustainable Development (SB RAS); Catalysis Reviews, Catalysis Today, Cattech, Industrial Catalysis News, Catalysis Letters, Topics in Catalysis journals.
The third director of the Institute of Catalysis of the SB RAS, Valentin Parmon, carefully preserves the traditions laid down in the work of the team by his predecessors. In addition, he actively participates in the training of scientific personnel: for more than 20 years, Valentin Parmon lectures at Novosibirsk State University, being a professor at the Department of Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
Since 2019, Academician Valentin Parmon has been a member of the International Expert Council for awarding the Distributed Power Generation — Great Achievements International Award, established by the Distributed Power Generation Association, and makes a huge contribution to identifying advanced projects of small-scale distributed and alternative energy.
The Distributed Power Generation Association team congratulates Valentin Parmon on his birthday and wishes him good health, new professional achievements and prosperity!
